| The shortest Rinjani summit option. Starting and finishing in Sembalun Lawang, trekkers reach the crater rim on Day 1 then push to the summit in the early hours of Day 2 — before descending 3,032m back to the village. Total elevation gain of 3,145m is roughly equivalent to climbing the Burj Khalifa four times. Recommended for fit, experienced hikers only. Not advised for first-time trekkers. | |||||

| The best introduction to Mount Rinjani — reaching the crater rim at 2,621m without the pre-dawn summit push. Day 1 ascent of +2,065m through Senaru rainforest is more elevation than Ben Nevis climbed from sea level. The rim campsite offers sunset views across the turquoise Segara Anak lake, 600m below. On clear evenings, Mount Agung on Bali is visible. Day 2 is a straightforward descent back through the forest. | |||||

Mount Rinjani Summit Trek — Most Demanding Summit
3 Day / 2 Night —
Sembalun → Senaru
|
|||||
| The most physically demanding 3-day route. Starting from Sembalun's open savannah, the summit is tackled on Day 2 — involving a pre-dawn push from the crater rim followed by a full caldera traverse to the Senaru rim in a single day. Day 2 elevation gain of +2,422m in one stage is the highest single-day gain of any RDA trek. Not recommended for first-time trekkers. Suited to those who need to finish earlier on Day 3, or who prefer to summit early in the itinerary. | |||||

Mount Rinjani Summit Trek — Most Popular Summit
3 Day / 2 Night —
Senaru → Sembalun

|||||
| The best all-round Rinjani experience and the most popular route. Day 1 climbs through Senaru rainforest to the crater rim. Day 2 crosses the caldera floor to Segara Anak lake and the Aiq Kalak hot springs, before climbing to the Sembalun crater rim camp. Day 3 begins with a pre-dawn summit push — reaching 3,726m at sunrise — followed by a long descent through savannah to Sembalun. Total elevation gain of +4,628m is roughly equivalent to Mont Blanc climbed from sea level. | |||||

Mount Rinjani Torean Trek SummitTorean
3 Day / 2 Night —
Sembalun → Torean (Unique Exit)
|
|||||
| The most visually dramatic route on Rinjani — and the one with the longest single day of any RDA trek. After reaching the summit on Day 2, trekkers descend 3,248m through the Torean Valley rather than returning to a known trailhead. The descent passes rivers, waterfalls, cliffs, and dense jungle that guides describe as a Jurassic Park feel. Day 2 total of 17.63km is the longest single trekking day on any RDA route. Not recommended for first-time trekkers. For experienced hikers wanting a technically diverse, adventurous exit. | |||||

Mount Rinjani Summit Trek — Most Immersive Summit
4 Day / 3 Night —
Senaru → Sembalun
|
|||||
| The most immersive Rinjani experience — same overall route as the 3-day Senaru to Sembalun trek, with an additional recovery day built in at Segara Anak lake. Day 2 is deliberately short (3.63km) — dedicated to rest, lake exploration, and the Aiq Kalak hot springs. The summit push comes on Day 4, following three days of gradual build on the mountain. One of the most remote lake campsites in Indonesia. Recommended for those wanting the full experience at a manageable pace. | |||||

Mount Rinjani Summit Trek Summit
4 Day / 3 Night —
Sembalun → Senaru
|
|||||
| The 4-day Sembalun to Senaru route tackles the summit earlier — on Day 2 — before a recovery day at Segara Anak lake and a gentle rainforest descent on Day 4. Day 2 combines the pre-dawn summit push with descent to the lake floor (2,302m total loss in one day), making it demanding despite the 4-day structure. Day 3 is a short 2.55km climb from the lake to the Senaru crater rim — steep but brief. Day 4 finishes through Senaru rainforest: a rewarding, sheltered descent for tired legs. | |||||

A licensed guide is mandatory on all Rinjani treks
A licensed, TNGR-certified guide is mandatory for all trekkers on Mount Rinjani — without exception. This is a national park regulation enforced at all entry gates on both the Senaru and Sembalun sides. Trekking independently without a licensed guide is not permitted and will result in refusal of entry to the park.
The regulation exists for good reason. Rinjani is a serious mountain. Conditions can change rapidly, trails — particularly the summit push — are steep, loose and disorienting in darkness, and the GPS data on this page, while accurate, is not a substitute for an experienced guide who knows the mountain in all conditions.
- All guides must hold a current TNGR licence — ask to see it before you trek
- The mandatory guide ratio is 1 licensed guide per 4 trekkers
- Guides are checked at entry gates — no licence, no entry
- All Rinjani Dawn Adventures guides are TNGR licensed and active on the mountain year-round
