After checking into your Sembalun accommodation, you can either relax at your lodge or take a short drive to Bukit Selong, a famous viewpoint known for its patchwork farmland and spectacular sunset views.

Early risers can opt for a sunrise hike up Pergasingan Hill, departing at 4:00 AM, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views over the Sembalun valley as the sun rises behind Mount Rinjani. If you prefer a slower start, you can enjoy a relaxed morning at your accommodation before breakfast.

After breakfast, your journey continues as you depart Sembalun valley via a spectacular mountain road, passing through Taman Wisata Pusuk, a highland area with sweeping views of the flat-bottomed valley below. If you opted out of the sunrise hike, there will be opportunities to stop for photos at scenic viewpoints along the way. The drive from Sembalun to Narmada Park takes approximately two hours, with optional stops along the route for short breaks or refreshments.

Upon arrival at Narmada Park, you’ll explore this historic royal water palace, built in the 18th century as a retreat for Lombok’s king. The trail is approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) round-trip with an elevation gain of around 350 meters. The path includes steep sections, but the reward is a breathtaking panoramic sunrise over Sembalun Valley and Mount Rinjani. If you have knee issues or prefer extra stability, we recommend using trekking poles, which can be provided by Rinjani Dawn Adventures upon request.
  • What to Wear for the Sunrise Trek: Mornings in Sembalun can be quite cold, so it’s best to wear layers—a light fleece or windbreaker is ideal. Sturdy trekking shoes with good grip are recommended, as some parts of the trail can be slippery, especially in damp conditions.
  • Scenic Drive through Taman Wisata Pusuk: The drive out of Sembalun takes you through Taman Wisata Pusuk, a mountainous forest area with incredible valley viewpoints. If you skipped the sunrise hike, this drive offers plenty of scenic stops for capturing the landscape. There may also be wild monkeys along the roadside, so keep your camera ready!
  • Understanding Narmada Park’s History: The Narmada Royal Water Palace dates back to 1727 and was built as a recreation and religious site for Lombok’s king. The park is designed as a miniature representation of Mount Rinjani, with a sacred spring-fed pool believed to have rejuvenating properties. If you’d like to take part in the ritual cleansing, be sure to bring a change of clothes.
  • Visiting the Islamic Centre in Mataram: This modern architectural landmark is one of the largest mosques in Lombok and features a tall observation tower with panoramic views over the capital. Visitors are welcome inside, but modest dress is required (shoulders and knees covered). If you’re interested in learning about Lombok’s Islamic culture, this is a great optional stop.
  • Shopping at the Handicrafts Village: Lombok is known for its skilled artisans, and the woodcarving village along today’s route is one of the best places to buy authentic handmade crafts. Here, you’ll find intricate wooden masks, decorative carvings, and traditional Sasak artwork. If you’re thinking of taking home a unique souvenir, this is an excellent place to do so.
  • Dining in Senggigi: Upon arriving in Senggigi, you’ll have the evening free to explore. While your hotel has a restaurant, Senggigi also has a range of beachfront warungs, seafood restaurants, and international dining options. If you’re looking for a laid-back vibe, grab a sunset drink at one of the beachfront bars before dinner.
  • Planning for the Next Day: Before your driver departs, he will confirm the pickup time for the next morning. If you have any special requests for Day 5, such as dietary preferences, let us know in advance so we can prepare.

Day 5

Summary:

A freshly prepared lunch will be served on one of the islands, allowing you to relax in the shade and take in the stunning surroundings.

By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at your exclusive beach campsite on Gili Tangkong, a quiet and unspoiled island perfect for a night under the stars. As the sun sets, enjoy a BBQ dinner and bonfire on the beach, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere of this secluded paradise. Fall asleep to the sound of gentle waves lapping against the shore, making this a truly unforgettable experience.

If you’re not a strong swimmer, we can provide life jackets upon request.
  • Snorkeling Gear – Bring Your Own or Use Ours: We provide snorkeling gear, including masks, snorkels, and fins. However, if you prefer to use your own gear for comfort, feel free to bring it along.
  • What to Wear & Bring: As this is a full day on the water, we recommend wearing light, breathable clothing over your swimwear, along with reef-safe sunscreen to protect your skin and the marine environment. A hat, sunglasses, a towel, and a dry bag are also useful. You may want to bring a change of clothes for the evening on the island.
  • Lunch on the Islands: A freshly prepared lunch will be served on one of the islands, giving you time to relax in a shaded area. If you have dietary restrictions, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate your needs.
  • Gili Tangkong – Your Private Beach Camp: Unlike the more well-known Gili Islands, Gili Tangkong is completely undeveloped, making it a true off-the-grid experience. Expect pristine beaches, no crowds, and a peaceful atmosphere as you settle into your exclusive beach campsite for the night.
  • Camping Setup & Facilities: We provide comfortable tents, sleeping mats, and basic camping amenities, but keep in mind that this is a remote island with limited facilities (the toilets are basic, and there are no showers). There are no permanent structures or shops, so everything needed for the night will be brought with us.
  • BBQ Dinner & Bonfire on the Beach: As the sun sets, enjoy a beach BBQ with freshly grilled seafood and local dishes, followed by a bonfire under the stars. This is a great time to relax, swap stories, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the island.
  • Photography & Stargazing: With no artificial lights on the island, the night sky over Gili Tangkong is breathtaking. If you’re interested in astrophotography or just love stargazing, this is an ideal location to experience a sky full of stars over the ocean.
  • Respecting the Environment: As we will be camping on a pristine, uninhabited island, we follow a strict Leave No Trace policy. Please be mindful of your waste, and avoid stepping on coral while snorkeling to protect the marine ecosystem.

The best time to visit Lombok is during the dry season (April to November) when trekking trails, snorkeling conditions, and island camping are at their best. The rainy season (December to March) still offers great experiences but may involve some itinerary adjustments due to weather.

Are there bathroom facilities on Gili Tangkong?

Gili Tangkong is an uninhabited island, so facilities are very basic. We provide portable camping toilets, and fresh water will be available for washing up. However, this is a remote experience, so be prepared for an off-grid night in nature.

Can I customize this itinerary?

Yes, we offer flexibility where possible. If you’d like to adjust activities, spend more or less time in certain locations, or add optional excursions (such as a visit to the Islamic Centre or Gua Sumur bat cave), let us know, and we’ll tailor the itinerary to your preferences.
