Mount Rinjani, with its towering summit and breathtaking views, is one of Indonesia’s most iconic trekking destinations. At Rinjani Dawn Adventures, we offer two 3-day/2-night trekking packages to explore this majestic mountain: the Standard Route and the Torean Route. Each offers a unique experience, and understanding their differences will help you choose the perfect adventure.
This option is ideal for trekkers who need to finish earlier on the final day, but it makes Day 2 more challenging. Here’s what to expect:
If you’re not in a rush to finish the trek, and providing everyone in your group agrees, it is sometimes possible to camp at the lake on Day 2. This would result in an early breakfast on Day 3, a climb out of the crater to Senaru Crater Rim, then a descent down to Senaru Village. This would push the estimated finish time on Day 3 from 2pm to 6 or 7pm (although this is variable with group speed / fitness level)
This route offers a slightly different sequence, and is ideal for trekkers who aren’t in a rush on day 3, and who want to summit on the final day, rather than Day 2.
Please note that descending from Senaru Crater Rim to the lake and hot springs can depend on the condition of the trail. If the trail is in a poor condition due to heavy rain or landslides during the rainy season, it is safer to start in Sembalun and climb up to Senaru Crater Rim. We will let you know the condition of the trail when you contact us, if you choose this option.
The Torean Route provides a more off-the-beaten-path experience. It’s known for its unique views, including Penimbungan Waterfall and dramatic landscapes. This route is recommended for experienced trekkers due to its challenging sections.

This video follows adventurers Max and Jacqueline on a 3 day / 2 night Mount Rinjani Summit trek, following the more advanced Torean Trail. Max & Jacqueline started in Sembalun, summited on the morning of the second day, and descended via the Torean trail on the afternoon of day two, finishing the trek in Torean village on Day 3. It’s worth checking-out and subscribing to their channel, as they have some great content about Lombok and other destinations. You can view the above video on YouTube, which will allow you to skip to key moments on the trek. Enjoy!
This route is recommended only for accomplished trekkers due to its technical challenges and exposure to heights.

The Standard Route is perfect for those looking for a classic Mount Rinjani experience with flexibility in the starting point. It’s well-suited to most trekkers, including beginners with a moderate level of fitness. The view from Senaru Crater Rim over Lake Segara Anak, Mt Barujari, and Mount Rinjani is a highlight for many people visiting Mount Rinjnai National Park.
The Torean Route offers a more rugged and scenic adventure, ideal for those seeking something different. However, it’s best for experienced trekkers due to its technical nature and the physical demands of the route. The dramatic views of the steep sided valley, plus Penimbungan Waterfall are highlights of this route.
